February 2009: The site has undergone a major update. All of the content sections have been updated and nonworking links have been pruned with new links and resources added in many cases. The "reference shelf" files have also been updated.
The advocacy tutorial has been removed from the site because it was not current and despite my caution on that, I think some parents continued to rely on it. I will prepare a different advocacy tutorial eventually that will continue to share all the mental preparation and tips/tricks that I have used over the years. For current and accurate information on special education law, see Wrightslaw.
I have two books in the works. The first one is a guide to school-based accommodations for a number of the disorders covered on this site. It will be published by Parkaire Press, and I'll post a note on the site when it's out, probably in a few months.
The second book, co-authored with Sherry Pruitt, is with Woodbine House and is for parents and educators. We cover Tourette's, OCD, ADHD, EDF, Mood Disorders, Sleep, a touch of Asperger's/NLD, memory and language problems that we see in some of these disorders, social challenges, and the major academic challenges such as handwriting, homework, testing, written expression, and math. We're in the last round of edits before we send it to the publisher and I'm getting excited as we get closer to seeing it go to press.
In the meantime, I will continue trying to get caught up on this web site which took a back seat for a while while other projects were being developed. As always, I'm sure
that despite my best efforts, I will have managed
to foul up some links or something. If you find any
errors or problems, please use the contact
form to
gently let me know.
And thanks to all of
you who have contacted me in the past year to
express your gratitude for the site. It's your
positive response that keeps me working on It.
